Batik is a craft
that have high art value and has become part of the culture of Indonesia
(especially Java). The women of Java in the past make their skill in making
batik as a livelihood, so that in the past the work of making Batik is a job
exclusively female until the discovery that allows entry of Batik Cap men into
this field. There are some exceptions to this phenomenon, namely coastal batik
has the masculine line, as can be seen in the pattern of the Mega Light, where
in some coastal areas of work is common for both men.
Batik tradition
was originally a hereditary tradition, so sometimes a discernible motive came
from a certain family of batik. Some of the motifs can show the status of a
person. Even today, some of the motifs tadisional is only used by the Royal
family and Surakarta.
