Culture


Batik is a craft that have high art value and has become part of the culture of Indonesia (especially Java). The women of Java in the past make their skill in making batik as a livelihood, so that in the past the work of making Batik is a job exclusively female until the discovery that allows entry of Batik Cap men into this field. There are some exceptions to this phenomenon, namely coastal batik has the masculine line, as can be seen in the pattern of the Mega Light, where in some coastal areas of work is common for both men.
Batik tradition was originally a hereditary tradition, so sometimes a discernible motive came from a certain family of batik. Some of the motifs can show the status of a person. Even today, some of the motifs tadisional is only used by the Royal family and Surakarta.

Ancestral heritage Batik Indonesia (Java) which still exists. Batik was first introduced to the world by President Suharto, who at the time was wearing batik at the UN Conference.
